HISTORY OF GABCON DRY PORT
GABCON is the largest container terminal in Botswana, founded in 1995, as Botswana Railways Department, in 1998 Transnet and BR formed a joint venture. The two rail giants operated a Dry Port from a small piece of land handling about 300 containers a month using one Reach Stacker, two trucks and a few trailers.
As years went by, the business prospered and this necessitated the need for a new area. In 2003 the Shareholders invested and a new Terminal was built. In 2005 GABCON relocated to a new site and then on 1st July 2022, GABCON transitioned from a Joint Venture entity into a Proprietary Limited.
Today the Dry Port handles on average about 1600teus per month at the Gaborone Terminal. GABCON now boasts of a fleet of truck tractors, reach stackers trailers and container side lifters for deliveries within Gaborone and the surrounding areas.
